JHSOnline will introduce its new ultrasound in the new year. Rather than scanning line by line from 128 separate channels and then plotting the received signals as conventional ultrasound does, the unit's approach is to send out signal in a form akin to flash photography. This returns an entire region of information, which allows fast processing of the image and, alternatively, permits use of various techniques for improving image quality. This new technology has enabled construction of a lower-cost device that's small and easily portable-a bridge of sorts between a large, full-size cart system and a compact device. The cart comes with a full-size flat-panel monitor, keyboard, and a full user interface. To go portable, pop the 5-lb electronics module out of its docking station.
